    45 acp reloading questions

I got some mixed brass from my brother who got it from someone else. not sure where exactly but when I was depriming and cleaning the primer pockets I noticed that some were small pistol primers and some where large pistol primers. All the ones with small pistol primers are federal cases. any idea why they would use small pistol primers instead of large? Cost? Would it affect how much powder needs to be added?

I don't reload .45 acp but they've been out for a few years with small primers. Can throw away or get small primers and reload.

I use the same charge with both types of cases. It's the only cartridge I've come across that aren't all the same primer size. Not exactly sure why.

At first I almost tossed em but talked with my brother about it he said it was normal. Just curious as to why they have two different primers lol

The bulk federal target loads like at Wally World have small primer pockets.

Federal champion uses them among some others.
They are using the non toxic "lead free" primers.

Wreaks havoc in a progressive press if you don't sort large and small primer brass.

They reload fine. I just don't use them due to I have more than enough LP fed brass.

I can believe that. I have a single stage right now. Just getting started. I'll get a progressive in the near future hopefully.
