I have a bunch of these growing around the neighborhood bearing fruit and wondered what kind of tree it was and if the fruit is edible?

Looks like Japenese plum from the pic. If so, very edible. I have never seen a Kumquat that large as posted above.

Looks like Kumquat. Two types, sweet and sour. Sweet are great just as they are, sour are good to cook with, use like limes.

Probably a Loquat (different than Kumquat)...........aka Japanese Plum. Just googled to confirm my initial thought.

Loquat is a Japanese plum, Kumquat is a very small citrus.
The tree pictured is 100% Loquat

I have two of em on my place....loquat /japanese plum/ chinese plum...heard them called different things. They taste pretty good and make great preserves.

Just walked out to my orchard to see if my Loquats are going to produce this year.......nada yet! But one of my apple trees is loaded!!!
