What does a string stop have to do with wearing a jacket?

The string stop should be about 1mm away from the string just almost touching it. The string stop stops over travel and reduces string vibration after the shot. Reducing string vibration reduces the noise made by the vibration of the string(obviously). Most strings come with a serving where the string stop is and if the string stop is set correctly should NOT cause any premature wear on your strings.

If you want to see how it works for yourself watch a YouTube video of a bow shooting in slow motion, if nothing else it's really cool to see one shoot in slow motion.

Put one on my Martin after a year without. Made a noticeable difference in shock and noise.

I've got one on my bow and added an after market to wife's bow. It quieted her bow and reduced the felt vibration, as well. Neither of us will have a bow without one from now on.
