    Golf Cart Battery Issue

Sunday morning my golf cart melted off the negative battery post. Anybody know why it would do this? I'm hoping it was a loose corroded connection. Can I replace just one battery? They were holding a good charge before this happened.

Dang. I've broke one off before tightening the cable but never seen this. I don't know why you couldn't replace just that one battery. I'd check all the connections.

I'm planning on cleaning or replacing all the cables. Just want to make sure I don't have bigger issues.

Happened to me twice. Loose/corroded cable is usually the culprit. Go to your cart dealer and get a used battery that closely matches the age/voltage of your other ones. New battery will cause charging issues I've been told. Your charge meter on your cart can be affected when you burn up a post. Mine was once, but not the other time.

More than likely a loose connection that causes a massive resistance current flow from the golf cart’s batteries to the power solenoid and controller assembly. We all know that resistance creates heat and this excessive heat leads to problems like this. It could have been worse. I seen where they have exploded even.

We run several battery carts at work and most of the time it a loose connection. You can drill and tap the round part that comes out of the battery. I use a 1/4" or 5/16" bolt about 3/4" long. Be careful not to over tighten.

BowSlayer is a wealth of knowledge about carts. He'd be my first contact!

                  Hey Stolle:

I just went through this. I had the exact same thing happen and yes it was a loose connection.

I bought one new battery and while talking to the guy that buys my batteries back, he said he fixes that issue all the time for like 20 dollars. Ne battery was 105.00. Long story short the new battery has been causing all kinds of problems with the pack. Because the new battery will charge faster then the old ones the charger runs longer and I can not get the old ones over 100%.

I am going to have to buy a complete new set, but my batteries are from 2011.

Find a battery place that repairs batteries and they can fix you up.

My place is in Alvin is Golden Eagle Battery.

I sell golf carts battery all day and 9 times out of 10 it is a loose connection that causes that to happen. You should be able to replace one battery if the others in the bank haven't been in very long, if that's the case make sure everything has a full charge and the correct amount of water in them. If they've been in there for awhile you would be better off replacing them all and starting fresh.

Easy to drill. Just don't go too deep! . There are some good instructions online.

Battery blew yesterday as they tried to fix a jammed thrower at American Shooting! Scared the absolute crap out of our group. Pretty sure the employee pooped a little!
