Best paint & application method for pipe fence

Plan on painting our pipe fence this spring/summer and looking for some good, long lasting paint that resists rusting.

Fence currently has some slight rust, I plan on using a wire brush to knock off the loose chips and use Ospho to convert the rust to a paint-able surface.

Which paint do ya'll recommend and what method is best? Keep in mind the fence is about 100 yards long and it has goat wire strung to it so it may be tough getting to the pipe behind the 2"x2" squares with a brush.

    Rustoleum?

I have painted a pipe fence before by soaking a rag in paint and using the rag as a brush. Messy but was faster than a brush, don't think it would work with the goat wire attached to the fence though

We would put on an AI glove on then a cloth glove over that and slip our hand in the bucket of paint ( 5 gallon, we had lots of pipe/sucker rod fencing) and grabbed the pipe and went to sliding.

I've seen people use a car wash glove like this with very good success.

Sherwin Williams sells an industrial acrylic enamel that works great over ospho! Have used it many times. Can be easily sprayed, rolled or brushed. If spraying use some paint thinner as it needs to be thinner slightly as to not clog spray tip. Leaves a gloss finish.

Wr-9 steel seal is better than ospho. Wire wheel on a grinder for surface stuff. Needle gun or a hammer on the chips/flakes. Couple coats of steel seal, and some aliphatic polyurethane 2 part paint.

Painted close to 4 miles of fence in HS. We sanded with old shingles. Used cheap jersey gloves to paint.

Brand is National paint company. Jetcote primer. Which ever you use make sure it has a rust inhibitor. We apply with a painters mitt.

I used an asphalt based paint on mine from Home Depot, and a painter's mitt.

We used to use a phenolic based paint at work, you could use that stuff for undercoat, it was super tough, don't know if you can get it anymore.

Up from the dead. I believe the paint your talking about is hammerite. This project will finally get done next week. Can't decide on dtm from Sherman Williams or hammerite.

Will be using ospho in rusted areas for sure

Rubber glove and car wash mitt.
Put rubber glove on hand, put car wash mitt over rubber glove.
Dip mitt in paint, apply paint to pipe

We did all of ours with black foundation coating.
