    Grass question

I almost have my back yard prepped and ready to start laying grass. Only problem is a have a few oak trees that keep the area rather shady. I've trimmed up what I can, but I have to admit I enjoy some shade back there. So what's the best grass for south texas that can survive in shady areas?

I got a seed from the local feed store. I will find the name for you. I have 6 big trees and lots of shade. The grass seed I got does well, but it is only about a month old. Do not know how to get pics to load to show you. You might just ask at the feed store also, many have a wealth of good info.

St Augustine, zoysia, Celebration Bermuda if it's not too shady.

If you use St Augustine then you will need to have plenty of water for it. It does need a good bit of water. It does not do cold weather very well also. I like it although it does have some draw backs.

St. Augustine is the only grass that will tolerate shade, bermuda will not grow in the shade......unless you go with some type of ground cover....

It's my husbands. You will have to call and get quotes- if you know how many pallets you need/ approx size of the area. Theres no delivery (most of it goes to new home subdivisions in San antonio and golf courses/stadiums) but they have sold some for people to come pick up.

I can't tell you the best kind- they have so many varieties for everything and I don't know enough about it. But my father in law can. He got a degree in agronomy at a&m. It's going to be cheaper than grass bought at lowes/nursery because it's direct. But it's not sold in individual squares, you have to order at least 1 pallet for them to cut. FJ select is an improved strain of st Augustine that was developed by FJ Milberger (who started Milberger turf) and texas a&m.

Depending on how much square feet one pallet will cover I'll probably need 5 or 6 pallets

Probably a better deal to buy direct with that quantity. There's alot of farms in this area and Edna's only 45 min or so. The Milbergers are one of the largest farms. They cut the day it's leaving the farm. Probably too wet to cut for a few days at any farm in this area after those storms.
