Power has been out at my house for a solid 12 hours now and the power company has no estimated time of restoration. Its nice and cool outside, so at least I have that going for me. But, im starting to wonder how long my fridge and freezer are going to keep. The fridge isnt as much of a concern as the freezer. Its a full size standing freezer but only has about a deers worth if ground meat left in it. Just wondering how long until I start to worry.

I dont know, but as stated, dont open the door. As long as it is fairly cool when you open it after it comes back on I wouldnt worry about it. I had a freezer go out on me but I didnt realize it till blood was draining onto the floor. Stuff was still cool ( maybe 50 deg, just a guess ) so I refroze it all and it was all fine. Of course I cannot guarantee it so use that advise at your own risk. I just think we have become too wimpy these days and too readily waste meat. If things spoiled as quickly as the govt said it does then mankind would have never survived to this point!

I just flew home in an airplane with half frozen meat (killed on last day of hunt) packed in an ice chest with clothes wrapped around it and no ice. It was about 30hrs from when I packed it till I put it in the freezer at home. It was thawed, but still plenty cold. Don't open the door to the freezer at all and it should be fine for at least a couple days!

Thankfully, it came back on around 11 today. We were gone most oft he day, so we weren't here when it came back on, but given that it was only around 14 hours, Im not too worried about it. I knew better than to open the doors, so everything stayed all nice and sealed. My biggest concern was when the power company said they had no estimate on time of restoration. That got me to thinking what would happen if the power were out for a couple of days, but luckily, we didn't have to go through that.
