    First Rattlesnake Of The Year

We were doing some scouting when we came across this little fellow. We scouting because my friend wants to move his deer stand to different location.

Nice job. I killed one about a week ago. Keep those snake leggings on!

I have a whole new respect for those things. I just got of the hospital from being bit by one about that size. They don't mess around. Just keep your fingers out of their mouth. You'll be alright.lol

Been catching them for a long time. But you can do something dangerous a million times but it only takes once to hurt ya. We all know the old saying..."If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned".....Its true.

Do you catch with tongs, hands, or what?

Both but this time I was catching them by hand. Had caught 4 in a row and that 5th one got me. I pin their head down by stepping on their head. Not enough to hurt the snake but enough to keep them from twisting around and getting me. Well i guess when i leaned down to pick the snake up I lifted my foot just enough that when I reached down to pick it up it was game over. That sucker struck me in the blink of an eye. I've done that tons of times and never had a problem. But I did once.....I'm more of a snake tong guy now.

More of a snake tong guy... that would have made me more of a 12-ga guy

lol That works too. They're worth more alive though. So I prefer to keep their head on. I'm just gonna do anything I can to keep that from happening again. I could have lost a finger very easily over that deal.

I always pin their head with my hook when picking them up. Lot more control for me that way. Glad you're ok. Bet it was a rough ride for awhile. As much as I like playing with them I've got to be very careful because I'm allergic to anti-venom.

                            OP, nice kill.
