The smell of sardines on the river bank with my GrandDad.

Burning tire rubber smoke on the street.

Perch jerking at a stock pond.

The space between the back seat and rear windshield.

        Dimmer switches on the floor.

Kids that say Yes sir to elders.

        Honoring veterans/ patriotism

Going to the movies for a buck.

Catalpa worm juice under my fingernails.

Settling differences man-to-man. No cops or lawyers.

        Kids that honor their parents.

Crossing any property boundry within miles without trespassing.

        Neighbors growing and sharing gardens.

        Deer hunting without hog problems.

Loose 22 shells in every coat pocket.

        Shooting whatever duck flew by.

The smell of a fresh stretched coon skin.

Turtle wax on my TransAm hood.

The smell of burning BlueDot powder.

        Natural boobs.

I miss my uncle's old feed store. The smell of hay, oats. Pig ears, leather, and shavings and a creaky hardwood floor. The sound of trains running by, men talking on the loading dock, the cheeps of chicks, and a band warming up at the bar on the other side of the tracks. I miss playing with every animal that came through and singing into the old barn fan like I was darth vader. Clear Pepsi, picking dewberries and eating fresh cobbler, and cowboy boots and shorts.

My mom giving me a quarter to go to the Texaco gas station on my bike and get a gallon of regular leaded gas (not Ethyl) for the lawnmower. And having enough change left to get me and my 2 brothers a piece of "gas station" gum. The big pink roll about the size of a hot dog.
