I bought my 13 year old an Easton mako bat about a year ago-( 350.00 bat) When he got it he hit really well with it. I have noticed lately that the ball is just no coming off the bat as fast or hard as it used to. I had him use an aluminum bat tonight and he hit well with it. Just wondering if the composite bat has lost its pop?

Do composite baseball bats real lose their pop?

Sometimes they develop hairline cracks from normal use. This causes them to lose compression, which in turn causes the ball not come off the bat as fast (referred to as trampoline effect). I've had some bats lose their POP really quick, while others lasted a couple seasons. It all depends on manufacturer, wear and tear, and even weather conditions. Don't use a composite bat in the cold weather because they will crack. Since my son has gone to the BBCOR, I've bought nothing but aluminum since they're all rated the same.

I take him to a hitting catch every week and his form looks good. I asked his coach if he has noticed him doing something wrong in the batters box but he said he has not noticed him doing anything wrong. That is what forms to thinking about the bat. His practices with his bat and played about 40-50 games last year with it. May be time for a new one I guess.
