    academy target?

Is the big, square academy brand target a good target to get? Will it last a while? They have them for 27.99. Or is there a better target to get? You can get two of these for the price of one morrell. Is that morrell or the bone collector that much better?

I've always liked the Morrell Yellow Jacket bag target for field points, which seems to last quite a while. If the square Academy target is an open cell foam target, stay away. It will have a short life and will end up unable to stop arrows after a while. Just my 2 cents.

Its got that same burlap type bag around it too. Morrell yellow target is like 70.00. Academy target 27.00. Might be one of those "get what you pay for deals" though. Thats why im checking.

If it is their bag style target, I have had one for a couple of years. I don't shoot as much as I want, but it has held up well. If you leave it outside in the weather all of the time, it will definitely deteriorate much faster. I put mine inside when finished shooting, and it is a couple of years old. The inside is stuffed with rags and screen type material.

I had a Academy bag target a couple years ago that worked extremely well. However, I am assuming you are talking about this one which looks different than mine did:

The notes say it doesn't go higher than 280 fps. It would be fine for my setups, but probably not for some of these faster shooting bows.

I'm cheap though, I pay $3 for my targets (a $3 burlap bag packed very tight with plastic shopping bags)

When did the Yellow Jacket go up? I have purchased a couple from Academy over the years and the price was always $45.

Once they fall apart, you'll see most are filled with plastic bags and carpet remnants. I'm sure the Academy bag is just about the same, and a better price. May be worth a try.

You may be right. It was on top shelf and I couldnt see price. I was doing the old "assuming" thing, because a bone collector one was 71 so i "assumed" the morrell was about the same price. I'll have to ask the salesman to get it down next time so I can check it out. Just dont need it going through into my fence. haha. Tv commercial says "nothing beats morrell" if you we can believe tv. haha

I buy one or two a year but i leave them outside so i'm sure its not helping life expectancy. But as far as stopping an arrow, i have had 0 issues until i shoot out a particular spot. So for the price they get my vote...

Dont go cheap at stopping arrows and, what are you going to shoot broadheads into...You bust a cpl of arrows and you just paid for the difference ...I just bought the Block and it will stop everything evertime for now going on 3 yrs on one and 5 yrs on the other..But for field points Morrell bags seem to hold up better to the arrows and elements

I got the morrells yellow jackets for around $45 from academy . I shot my wife's 400 quad Barnett Xbow and it stopped it no problems .

The sandwich foam, and bag targets are mediocre at best. None have lasted me a year as my primary target. (even the old Hips targets, with replaceable cores I would buy back in the early 90's)

I bought a Rinehart 18-1 a few years ago, and it is still going strong. I can shoot broadheads, field points and even after lots of shots by multiple shooters, it is still in great shape.

If you can shoot it out in 1 year, they will replace it for free.

They are spendy, but worth it. Buy once, cry once.

X2 on the Rhinehart .. completely satisfied after several bags and layered foam targets failing to last
