It is actually a real exercise but in typical fashion the crazy uncle of the right wing has dreamed up a fantasy around a tiny bit of fact to drive page views and add clicks by duping the chronically paranoid.
This type of military exercise is not uncommon or classified. While I don't trust many in government I have no problem with any member of our special forces slipping around all secret squirrel like on main street if it helps him somehow get home after taking care of business abroad

This may not have anything to do with this, but my Grandfather was a Green Beret. He once told me that they did a lot of secret training in the U.S. They would carry out fake missions and try not to get caught. Many of them were in and around Washington DC.Comment
