What are you doing to get ready during the off season?

I am living the dream! I hunting on the same place in San Saba county for 16 years. There was always a real good core group of guys, but seemed like we were always doing "just enough" to keep things going. Two years ago my small consulting firm merged with a larger conglomerate. They had a ranch in Lampasas TX, so I did not renew. Things did not work out with the merger...so I took my firm back and the good Lord blessed me the opportunity to lease the pasture next to where I hunting for 16 yrs in San Saba county...same land owner. This time however, I am leasing by myself. No others except me and my kids 1000 AC! I have spent the last few weeks buying feeders, feed, hog panels, t-posts, turkey feeders, game cameras, custom made box blinds, tree stands, materials for pig pipes, hog lights, etc...

I made a promise to only "do it right"! No half @ss efforts.

Super excited to finally set up a place they way I want to set up without input from anyone:

    - Texas Wildlife Supply "Old Timer" Feeders (5)
    - Bushnell Trophy Cams (7)
    - Extreme Outdoors Custom Bow Blinds (3)
    - Johnston 360 Tree Stands (10) (North and South set over each feeder)
    - Big Hat BBQ Pit (1)

Going to be a good year. One I hope that is not filled with a lot of maintenance...and just enough!

I envy you--I was on a lease with 3, sometimes 2 others for several years and I am retired and the others were still slaving away. That meant I did the majority of the off-season work, filling/maintaining feeders, trimming lanes, cutting firewood, but come hunting season, I had the lease to myself from Sunday PM thru Friday AM--sure was nice.

        Enjoy your place--sure is great.

Lucky man, you got it made. I'd be happy enough just to have the money for a lease. Going to have to make it happen when the boys are old enough to hunt. Won't lug them around on public land with all the looneys and extra rules. Fine for one person, not if I'm packing in extra gear for 2 or 3. Good luck this year, lets see some prospective photos.

You are correct, no half stepping it on your place.

Good luck and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Should be a great place.

It was a weekend of more work. I was able to pick 2 of the blinds and take them out to the ranch. Also took out the pit. Like I said before...I am living the dream!
