using a ladder stand on crooked tree

Will it work, or do you need a straight arrow type tree for a lean on type ladder stand?

I have some oak trees that I'd like to put a stand in, but a lock on won't work, and I know a gametamer would be best.... but my neighbor has a double seat 13-15' lean on, still in the box he'll sell for $50.

It will work but it is a PAIN IN THE ARSE!!!!! fooling with it until it does. I just put one up last week and it was the worst stand I have ever put up. But it is the perfect location for that spot.

lol hopefully getting ready for a hunt!

Gonna try to get back out to my lease one more time before I go on my Axis hunt. Then leave my set ups alone until season starts. That way when I get back from my Nebraska hunt, I can chill at my lease.

I'll probably get a gametamer, but I have to wait for another month or two...had to buy a new freaking lawnmower after mine launched a rod through the block a couple weeks ago

at least I'm cutting down on my mowing time, which will hopefully translate into more hutning time

I hear ya. The one I set up is mainly for the wife. She still isn't sure if she is scared of hights or not so a lock on is out of the ? But I have been looking into Gametamers for myself as well. Need to replace a few of the older cheap ons I have.

I went to set up my ladder stand yesterday on the new piece of property that I am hunting on this year. I found a great area to put it and I wrestled with it for an hour and couldn't get it right!! It was the only tree I could put it on over looking an awesome well used game trail. I ended up pulling it out of there and took it to another area and still had the same problem. I have found some trees that it would work in just fine but the location wasn't right. Everytime I found a good location for it their wasn't a good tree to put it on. After 3 hours of trying, I gave up till I go back up there and try again! After this season, I'll be giving this thing away. lol

Yes, I think a straight tree is the only way to go with a lean on ladder stand. I found that out yesterday.

well, the other issue is, not only do I not have a straight tree in the area... I have ONE tree that I can put it on... all the other oak trees are about 5 feet in diameter..way too big

My experience over the last couple of years says, you have to have a good vertical to attach the top to so the seat/platform and ladder are level and stable. Make sure the tree is pretty solid. I setup one last year that was like a palm tree in a hurricane. What a rodeo.

Academy had the BBK 2man 15 ft. for $99. I bought another and just don't use the shooting rail/backrest.

I have alot of straight trees, so adjusting to 8, 12, 15 feet and the ability to move them around is great.

I have the same problem. I ended up driving around the lease looking for a good tree. Never did find one that would work. Let us know how you solve your problem. I will be looking at the same solution.

Man I love my ladder stands because of the fact that you can hang them in just about any tree. I have several 15ft. Strongbuilt that I bought the 4ft. extensions for and really love them. No more screwing spikes into trees and wrestling a hang on stand up the tree.
