    Choosing a college

What a roller coaster ride but we finally got the son settled yesterday. We do not have a lot of money for college and we agreed not to go 10s of thousands of dollars in debt to pay for college. We/ he filled out for many scholarships and was accepted to several schools but the scholarships kept falling through. He signed a scholarship offer yesterday for a Juco to judge livestock so at least his first 2 years are paid for. Coming from a class of about 8 kids I think Juco will be a better fit for him any way.

Now we are working on my daughter who will graduate next year. She is adopted so her school is paid for as long as she will go.

Congrats to your son! I received a livestock judging scholarship as well. Chose not to take it though. Didn't know if I could stand living that far north of I-10!

Congrats in my experience the school doesnt matter as much as the major. Pick something in high demand and it doesn't matter where you graduated from you'll have a job before graduating. I went to a no name and going bavk online now. My school was never questioned. As long as i had the degree im in and i dont make any less than others that graduated feom the big name achools that i currently work with in my field. There definately are the click schools like atm that put you ahead of others if the employer is alumni though. Yoire obviously doi g somethi g right thag he wanted to give college a go. Whats he majoring in?

Congrats to your son, went through it with both mine. Son gave up Lamar scholarship and took the others he had and did 2 years at Kingwood then 2 at SHSU to get a BA in Business. Daughter went through nursing at Kingwood on her scholarships. We paid for some books and gas, no loans to pay off when they got their degrees.

Good for him! Tell him to keep his head in the game and to work hard. Juco isn't bad. He can always transfer in somewhere.

PS tell your daughter to go to Texas A&M..... Not that I'm biased or anything. But it's such a well rounded experience. I was college of AG and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Proud for him. After finally paying off a combined $75,000 in student loans I think you are very wise to consider the cost.

getting out debt free is a big deal, my son passed on an archery scholarship in georgia , decided to go to a&m kingsville for wildlife and range mgmt. decided he would rather work during school than go someplace where he would have to settle on a degree

That will more than likely be west texas a&m. I think she wants to be a nurse.

                    Congrats to your son!!

Education has become a business and very political......just think, if we were all illegal immigrants, breaking the law, our education would be 100% free!!!!

Texas A&M college station has a nursing program as well. If her education is payed for I would at least check it out. It provides a great pedigree and a network for life.

My youngest will be starting pre med in the fall and was accepted to LSU. His life long dream school. But, he was also accepted at U of H. U of H offered him more scholarships. So, U of H it is.

I did tell him he could attend any school he liked as long as he had the scholarships or paid for it out of his pocket. But, if I had to help pay for it he is going to attend the one that offers the most scholarships.
