    Cattle Question

Anyone had any cattle artificially inseminated lately? What were you charged per head? I breed/synchronize cattle on the side and was curious what others charge. I tried to get another local AI guy to fill me in on his pricing but he acted like it was a big secret. Basically I'm just wanting info to see if I can cut back my rates some to save my customers some money. Since it's just a side gig to make some extra cash, I can afford to drop my rates a little if it will pay it forward to my long time customers.

I've been charging my customers the same rate for years as my cost has stayed the same basically.

Don't know anymore but years ago it was 75 plus cost of the straw...

      Cattle Question

I'm basically just wanting to know the fee for the actual arm service...putting a straw of semen in the cow. I have a few customers that do all the set up and cover that cost. I know my fee for a turnkey deal is spot on...just got a couple projects where I'm just showing up to AI and the customer has paid for setup, semen, drugs, etc.

There is a local rancher around me that does it for I believe about $150.

Great question. Wish I knew myself. I'll keep paying attention and asking the local guys around here that AI on the side.

So what's the going rate if you do all the leg work on that? Only ask because I barely know what is done in the process, other than a youtube video, but I have a couple cows that we want to do AI with. Haven't looked into who near me can do it or what it will take. Still a bit to learn.

No idea what others charge to AI. The man I work for on the side(myself) is a very cheap cowman. I do palpate a lot at $2 a head plus beer.

That seems high to me...I'm breeding 91 heifers for a guy next week...that would be a good pay day but I think it would be my last bit of work for him at that price. Lol.

I usually give a pretty good volume discount but even a discount off that price would still be a lot of coin.

Skinny, AI'ing 91 head at $5 each is still a pretty good check for a days work. Not sure if your thinking lower than that or not?

I agree with Hereford on just a couple of head. I don't think you can get away with that price on 91 head. $35 to $45 a piece is what we payed for our show heifers to be AI'd. That was 3 to 4 at a time.

I would think 10-15 arm service for that many.

I have a friend thats going to do mine in a few weeks, he charges 20$ plus straw.

If he has to hold them on his place its a different story.

There's a joke here somewhere but I just can't put my finger in it.

I have no idea on price either but if that guy has 91 heifers at $35 each is $3185...That's less that the cost of 2 heifers to have all 91 done. How many days is it going to take to do all 91 of them?
