After reading all of the theft threads lately, I thought I'd pass along something we were told when our place was hit.
Keep records of the serial number for every piece of equipment/electronics you own. When we called the local police and they came out to file the report, they told us that they have a national database where they can file the serial numbers of the stolen equipment. That is the only way they can get your stuff back to you. Maybe somebody in law enforcement can verify that this is true, but it sure made me start keeping better records. Every single item I buy, I record the make/model/serial number on a spreadsheet and then save it to a flash drive. That way if they bust a meth lab somewhere and find my DVD player, tv and stereo they can at least add that to their rap sheet, if nothing else!
Hope this helps somebody, someday. Can anybody verify if this is true?
