    Property taxes are crazy!

Why are property taxes so high in Texas!? As my wife and I look for a house in the San Antonio area we have found that most of the houses in our price range have an annual tax rate between $5000-7000!!! Compliments of the nice school districts... Which we would surely benefit from. However, this severely limits our buying power. Any suggestions? What are your experiences?

No state income tax would be my guess.

My wifes family lake house on LBJ jumped to 11,500 a year when grandma died.
Pure BS that property taxes can price you out of a property thats been paid for since about 1980

I would LOVE to pay 5-7K in property taxes. High property taxes are not just for nice school districts--they pay for the trashy ones as well.

Sorry to hear that! I suppose the rule of 'keep it local' only applies in rural towns, if at all...

NB has excellent schools. That's the primary reason we moved there.

You don't own property in Texas, you just rent it. Even when it's paid off.

Like a lot of people here, I wish mine were only 5-7 thousand.
