    Grayson County Food Plots

Ok so I have 4 properties out in Grayson County. We have two set up with nice tanks and are planting for the ducks. But we also have the 2 other properties we want to set up food plots for deer on.

So what would yall suggest for that area? We will have the farmer disk and then plant but could really use the help on what, when and best area do plant it.

I'm assuming you're talking fall food plot here?

What - I'm going to text this to you. Don't want to post this part in public.

When - Mine went in the ground at the the weekend before the dove opener. Hindsight 20/20 maybe a week or two earlier would've been ideal. You never know what the rain is going to do though.

Best area - as close as you can get to their bedding without messing them up trying to hunt it. You want them in there as early in the evening and as late in the morning as you can get. If you're way far from bedding, like mine was, you will take a bunch of night pictures.

Has it dried out enough to fire up the tractor and mow up that way or does it still look like a swamp?

We started cutting/bailing yesterday finally. In the low areas it's still swampy.

Gotcha. Ya i figured it would take a week or 2 for everything to get fully dry.

Is it still muddy up that way from the rain during the week? Need to get some work done but don't want to get stuck.

I plant a mixture of oat, wheat, vetch and cow peas that the deer tear up. If the weather cooperates and you can plant in September it will be dynamite. If it doesn't you will have to rely on a fall plot. I've got a couple alfalfa fields planted for that time of the year.
