    Fixed or Mechanical for Blackbear?

I have never hunted black bear before and am considering using a Rage Hypodermic on my Alberta hunt in May. I am not sure how a bear's hide, fat content etc plays into things when talking about broadhead penetration but I figured I would see what ya'll's thoughts were.

The other option is to just go with my Slick Trick Grizz Tricks. Assuming I make a good shot, maybe it doesn't matter one way or the other. But I have no experience bowhunting bears so any thoughts/experiences are appreciated.

I have taken 3 black bear. First with a Rage 3 blade (mech), 2nd with a G5 Montec (fixed) and third with a G5 Havoc (mech). All 3 bears are on my wall

Bears are made up of a walmart sack full of shaving cream.
Shoot what you like they are really soft

The only thing about bears, thick hair, but you should be able to use a broadhead you are comfortable with.....they die easily...

I was never a rage fan, in fact I would buy packs of them and never use them. Just could not bring myself to do it. This year I changed every thing up. Switched from a loyal mathews fan to an obsession. Went 60 lb instead of the 73lb I had been shooting(shoulder surgery). And decided I would try the hypodermick on javelina. I was shocked to see the damage they did. But the real test came on a 250 pig. Hypo's were all I had in the qiuver when i started the stalk. When it hit him there was so much mud, sparks came off him. A 2" shield and it made it through him to the off side shield. He was one ****** dude. But it put him down in 40 yards. And broadhead had no damage what so ever. Of course it was not as sharp afterwards. But one of the guys checked to see how sharp it was after and he said he could not tell the differance with a new one. I cant believe I would write this, but I was impressed. I would have no problem shooting a black bear with one. Or a slick trick, or VPA.

had a miss hap on a white tail with one and that ended that for me so now its ram cats all the way.

my brother in law used a grim reaper and it work well, he also used a ram cat on the next hunt and now its all he uses

We have lost several mule deer with ram cats. Blades are the weak link, unless they chaged some thing recently. Son nor I will use them again though.

Why would you shoot a compound bow? A release? A fall away rest?

Bears are not very tough actually. I used a fixed blade but I use fixed blade on every critter I hunt! He ran all of 14 yards and rolled up with a death moan.
