The way the whole 30 was explained to me is that it is supposed to be an extreme way of eating to teach you the habits of eating natural and in a paleo style. And when the 30 days are up you can pick healthy habits to make apart of your lifestyle. I think of it as a healthy eating cleanse because it's definitely not practical to keep up forever.

My family is doing right now and we are 8 days in.

Here are my thoughts on it:
Is it realistic to eat like this all the time?
      No
Can you eat like this for 30 days?
Yes, but it's difficult and you just have to plan

I had energy crashes the first few days but I'm over it now. I'm amazed at how good I already feel. Since we are doing this as a family, we have been spending more time together planning our menus and preparing our food. My hope with this is that it will teach my girls about different foods and how much processed and fast food affect our lives. Not just from a convenience perspective but also how it affects our bodies.

We won't continue the whole 30 in the same manner in which we are currently doing it once the 30 days are up, but we will use what we've learned to continue to plan menus together and eat as healthy as possible. We will spoil ourselves from time to time, but not the way we had been.

From my own perspective, I just turned 48 years old and haven't been feeling that great. I'm sure it's mainly due to the diet I've had the past 6 months so it was time for a change. I won't step on a scale again until the 30 days are over, but I started at 197 and I'll be curious to see what I weigh when it's over.

I'm ready to get back in the boat that's in my avatar and eating healthier definitely has me wanting to paddle again.

I'll post my personal results here once my 30 days have passed.

My mom did and is about to do it again with my dad. She lost a ton of weight the first time and said she just felt better plain and simple. The no sugar thing was the hardest part for her but it can be done. You are right about having more venison as it has become pretty much a staple in our diets since then.

I've done it a few times. Lost about 20lbs each 30 days. Like others have said the biggest change I saw was how much better I felt during the 30 days. I don't buy into what the book says 100% but it's hard to argue that eating whole home cooked foods most of the time isn't a good idea. It's been over a years since I did 100% clean eating, and I've slowly gotten back into old habits, but some of the good habits have staid. I know that I don't have the tolorance for sugar that I had before, and I don't eat fast food nearly as much as I did.
The one thing that got me was the cooking. I enjoy cooking, but after 30days of basically cooking every meal I ate I was burnt out. At the end it got to the piont that I would just eat fruit for meals so that I didn't have to spend time cooking.
All that said it was a good experience, it opened my eyes to a diffirent way of living that made me feel a lot better.

My point is why do it again if you have already lost the weight you want...or did that weight slowly come back?

Thanks for all the input so far. We both know what it takes to stick with it. We are all about meal prepping and it is usually how we spend our days off together on sundays.

We understand it may seem like a radical fad diet but it's something we both agreed that we needed to do, after the past 2 months of craziness dealing with our jobs, family and emergencies.

I can deal with not eating most of this stuff anyways for 30 days. We're wanting to do this really to give us a Kickstart to feeling better like we used to and get back on our healthier lifestyle and lower our risks of health issues. Losing weight would be a bonus for us, also to cut down on unnecessary costs associated with going out to grab dinner.
