I have Verizon. I've hunted out just a few miles west of Leakey and can also confirm that Verizon is spotty at best. I did ask Verizon here in San Antonio about the issues out in that area with bad cell coverage and they said they hope to get towers out in west/south west Texas soon. What soon is to them who knows. I like Verizon and that area is the only area I've had with no coverage. Ive always had Verizon, the wife and I both run smart phones so I can only speak for two phones on them as a carrier and we are up there for a (2phone) bill since we are around 160 a month. But that's the plan we chose. I'm sure we could do better if we dropped some stuff off our plan but we use the heck out of our phones.

I have used ATT for years and always looked if I could find a better service. That has yet to happen even with Verizon. While I have seen some great service with Verizon where I use phones from friends and coworkers, ATT has almost always matched it and many times beats it.
When I go hunting in some parts of east Texas and a couple of spots in south Texas, Verizon is a waste of money. I have some friends that I hunt with in two ranches in south Texas and they have ATT any time phones (no monthly fee) and purchase minutes to use the phone only for those hunts. Their Verizon phones are useless and they got tired of borrowing my phone.
Verizon is great in a lot of places but I have seen very few ATT loss of coverage areas and way more from Verizon. Of course if you are regularly in one of those loss of coverage areas for any service (including ATT and Verizon), then that carrier is useless. For my money, Verizon has been useless in a lot more of the areas that I frequent. I have never had to borrow a Verizon phone but I have had mine borrowed by several Verizon friends.
