    Contracting Your Own Pool Build

Anyone done it? Any tips are appreciated. I remember someone in the Magnolia area having an awesome pool built, and I would appreciate the contacts. We have the basic idea of what we want, but not sure where to go from there. Making the decision to move forward or not soon. If it's a go, would like to swim this summer. How much would we save building in the off season?

Landrover is the man to talk to.

I did my own at the ranch but it wasn't very big.

Dug the hole and trenches with the skidloader
Hired a concrete crew to do the formwork and steel
Bought the pool equipment from warehouse pools
      did the plumbing myself.
      did the electrical myself
concrete guys came back and poured the concrete (not gunite)
Hired a plaster contractor that did the pool plaster and flagstone as well...

literally saved half what the cheapest pool bid was and got better equipment

I will PM Landrover. Thanks. That is what I am hoping, the saving 50% part. Plus I want the best equipment and to make my own choices in that dept. I will be paying someone to do everything, but I just don't see paying the markup for someone else to coordinate that. Keep the info coming everyone.

My little ranch pool. If you want a lot of curve and shape you will have to gunnite. I wanted a cool dipping/resting/beer sipping pool with conversational seating built in...

Here is my thread from last spring. My neighbor had most of the contacts and the rest we just grabbed guys throughout the neighborhood who actually worked for the BIG pool companies and paid them cash. For the pool, hot tub, pavilion, firepit, and water features I saved at least 50% based on the quotes I had gotten before I started. My landscaping was additional cost but I do most of that myself.

Speaking of pools built in the DFW area, and most likely any metropolitan area of Texas, you can build a 62,000.00 dollar pool for about 50,000.00 if you do all the contracting yourself, now bare in mind that when something breaks, ( and it will ) you will have to fix it yourself or contact one of your subs to fix it ( good luck ) I believe in trying to save a few bucks on things that i know a little about, but I can tell you if I need to have a tooth pulled or a knee scoped i would just as soon use a professional to do it. Also many of the subs will not give you ( a one time customer ) the same price that they work for the builder, not trying to discourage you from building your own, just stating a few facts, good luck with it.
