    VFD related workers comp...

    Short version....

In late Feb, I jacked up my left elbow dragging a charged 2" up a ladder during a structure fire. We are a small VFD and at 3 in the morning we have limited resources untill the calvary arrives from surrounding areas. Anyway...

I make an appointment last monday with an ortho to get it checked out using my regular job related insurance. I was talking with a salesman that reminded me that we have insurance coverage thru VFIS and I should look into it.

I call our VFIS rep and he refers me to their corporate office. Great people, no hassle. They refer me to Texas Mutual and the office staff is great but.... the adjuster calls myself and our Chief on friday and this guy is a effin' ******!!!! Rude, demeaning, calls me everything but a liar. Royally pizzed me off!!!!

I cant wait to speak to his boss today!!!!! We do this stuff for free to help our communities, we pay our insurance premiums just like any paid FD and shouldnt havr to be treated this way. So here I am, hurt and trying to do the right thing and have to deal with azz-hats like this...

    Rant over, wish me luck!!

Did you fill out the paperwork in Feb? I know that we had strict rules about having the paperwork filled out for an IOJ within 24hrs of the injury.

Good luck getting it taken care of.

        This^^^

Pretty much any insurance company is going to throw a fit if someone waits over a month to report an "on the job" injury.

That's just the norm when it comes to Workmans Comp people. I've had to deal with them for my burns over 76 of my body surface with 93% past 3rd degree for 34 years now. It's such a pain in the butte I don't even try to get medial needs done any more.

Holy chicken nuggets!!!! I cant even imagine!!!!

I sent a very nice "kiss my bass, your guy is out of line" email this morning. Now they are scrambling to make it right!!!

I reported the injury during the incident to the appropriate parties, we have witnesses; Heck, my picture was on the front page of the Ellis County Press and in the Ennis and Waxahachie newspapers with me hanging off a ladder with the hose in my left hand!!! How much more exposure do you need!!!!

Their concern is the timeline between the injury and the workers comp claim. I just assumed it was something simple and would go away. It hasn't and now I can hardly dress myself using my left arm!! Now I just need to get my Midol and Pamprin perscriptions refilled

I feel your pain brother. I dislocated my shoulder at work and it's been nothing but trouble trying to get workers comp to do the right thing. Good luck with getting it all straitened out and getting your arm healed up. It is royal pain in the back side as you mentioned. First they practically accused me of lying about my injury. They later closed my case after an MRI showed I needed surgery but would not give me a reason. It's been an hill struggle, fortunately I am now recovering from the surgery and my shoulder should be good to go in a few months.

I'm a SAPD motorcycle officer who had a young man turn in front of my city owned motorcycle and another truck because his gps said turn left here from the far right lane entire accident witnessed by several people who came to my aid picked up my motorcycle and was caught on video by the on board camera, fractured scaphoid left wrist, closed head injury, torn rotator cuff, c2-c7 neck injury, lower back injury, workers comp refused all injuries stating they were preexisting conditions or degenerative due to age, that was 04-03-14 just went to first arbitration and the arbitrator told w/c they had to pay for the already done shoulder surgery even the state dr that did my mmi/ir stated all these injuries were from being ejected from a motorcycle at 22 mph but they still refuse I have a w/c lawyer that I pay for outta of my own pocket still outta work.look up first responders vs Tx workers comp and see what they do to us all

Went to see the doc(s) about my elbow yesterday. Overall I have a severe case of tennis elbow. The ortho said that the MRI showed a distended tendon, it had a name about 6 syllables long!!! He fit me for an elbow/tennis elbow brace. Its about 10" long and should come in next week. He also prescribed an anti-inflammatory for 45 days and gave me 3 hydrocortisone injections. THAT EFFIN HURT!!!!

I go back in a month to review any progress. Im thankful that its nothing too bad!!!!

Yes Sir it is sad that a criminal gets hurt and he gets first rate medical care. And you and I get treated like criminals because we got hurt performing our duties. Sad state of affairs with all government agencies
