carbon arrows and better bow design got rid of the overdraw.

With carbons, you didn't have to cut your arrows to 22 inches and draw 80 pounds to get 300 fps anymore.

          yep , what Bill said

i'll never forget shooting a PSE Mach4 with overdraw , tear-drop cables back in 1989. Jim Crumbly TreeBark camo. 22" Easton super-lite XX75 2213's topped with Rocky Mtn Barrie Thunderhead 100 gr

i'm guessing speeds were in the 270 fps range pulling 80 lbs. - smokin' back in the day

carbon arrows were the demise of the OD

have you priced aluminum arrows lately ??? not only are they hard to find, but darn near the same price as carbon arrows

I've said it before, but I sure wish I could have all the money back that I spent on overdraws and mini-me arrows.

            See above.

Blake -- I clearly remember shooting a Browning with hatchet cams and an overdraw -- 80# at 267 fps.

            My shoulder still hurts

                Rod,

one of my first bows ever owned was an Oneida Screaming Eagle (w/ overdraw) back in 1987 ??

I was very green with bows , but that sucka looked cool and was smooth to draw.

here's my introduction to hunting out of a tree stand and not knowing what the heck I was doing.

Deer stand and bow - 1

                Cajun Blake - 0

Hunting out of a Loggy Bayou climber (POS by the way), I'm seated and draw back on a doe at 10 yds. I was using a Mason Range Indicating sight that had 4 pins and each one would light up for appropriate yardages. *Anyone remember these sights ??

Anyway, I touch the release and the bottom limb strikes the loggy platform. A big ole "TWACK" as I had no clue what just happened. Arrow probably went sailing to the next Parish and bottom limb had a nice scratch and dent.

long story short. Don't shoot an Onieda bow from the seated position in a tree stand while aiming under 10 yards.

my safety belt was on as this experience scared the schiit out of me. I never did that again !

funny! yeah, i remember when i was 18 working at the midland army store, guys were spending ungodly amounts of dough (to me at the time) on oneida eagles, and tuning and tuning and tuning...... that was before the manager talked me into a coumpound (bear whitetail II ) i had been shooting a martin hunter recurve 55# that was 1988? 89?

I still have a Tiger Tough over draw that I shot on an old PSE. Was a good rest. Alot of the drop aways set the rest back quite a bit. I shoot 28.5" DL and my Axis arrows are 27".

Are the brace heights shorter now? So if you use the OD the string will hit or will the bow become too unforgiving? Just a thought.

Under weight arrows and overstressed limbs knocked out a lot of the old overdraws. Had one once on my old Browning Magnum. Got 268 and a hernia!

That's ok Blake. I was sitting in a lock on and basically made the same mistake.

The first doe I shot at, I caught my pants in the lower cam.

Shot 1 -- ended up in a tree
Doe comes back for shot 2 -- shoot over her back
she's still there -- I compensate for shooting over by sticking one in the mud.
Now, I think she's laughing -- arrow 4 strikes same tree as arrow 1
                              She finally leaves.

I got out of my stand, picked up my arows and drove back to camp.
Leave two broadheads imbedded in tree trunk.

Found out my sight was loose and fixed that -- connected on a seven point the next day.

But that wasn't my first screw-up -- in 1989 I had convinced myself that I didn't need sights.
Missed a ten point at twenty one yards. stupid, stupid, stupid
