    Need Advice From Plumbers

Ok, so I came home from work yesterday and the guest bathroom was stinking really bad, and smelled like raw sewage. This morning it was just as bad. There are no leaks or anything that looks out of the ordinary. Does this sound like I need to replace the wax ring?

Maybe check that your vents are clear, and your not getting sewer gas backing up in the house?

Depending on what kind of house it is there is sometimes a vent under the sink. It is to keep the pies from getting a "vacuum" lock. The cheaper vents when they fail, they get locked in the open position and is venting off your sewer or septic. The more expensive vents, I replaces all 3 in my house with these, get locked in the closed position when they fail. So your sink will not drain very fast when it fails and the house won't stink.

If it is a guest bathroom, then it is not used much....run the water in your sink to refill the "P" trap.....found mine that way before....the water evaporates out of the "P" trap and sewer gases come up from it...

What do the vents look like under the sink? Actually the bathroom does get used a lot. So, just let the water run in the sink for a while? Thanks for the suggestions guys

Dont know if you have them down there or not but here we have floor drains. And they need water in the trap also. We have this happen every once in a while, just poor some water with a little bleach in it and takes care of it.

If the wax ring seal is bad, I've had water leaking from under the commode, not causing odor. Your traps in the line should be preventing odors from entering the room. Like it was said, either one is dry or there's a problem with the venting. If you pour water in the sink, shower/bath and the toilet bowl is full, check your vent pipe on the roof for something blocking it.

Sounds like if I put water in the sink, toilet, and tub and the smell is still there it may be the roof vent pipe. I'll check that too. Thanks
