    gallbladder function and removal?

Anyone have no gallstones but have limited function on the hida test. That is the situation I am in with nagging pain in right side under ribcage. Surgeon will remove it but I am concerned having same problems afterwards. My pain doesnt seem to be related to what eat or when it just comes and goes as it pleases.

My wife had hers removed in an emergency procedure last week. She went in pretty sick and had to have two procedures. She is slowly recovering, but getting better. Doctor said she will feel much better once she is back to normal. I have heard that everyone is affected differently so no way to tell what afterward would be like. You don't want to have it out after you are sick though, I do know that!

I went through the pain of gall bladder with no stones. Gall bladder was only working part time. Had it taken out in 2004 and haven't had any problems since.

My BIL had his removed. Only issue he has is that if he eats greasy/fatty food he better not venture to far from a RR because it goes right through him

I spent this last Christmas in the hosptial at Seton Northwest (Austin) for this very reason. I resisted the surgery at first as well, but now I am very glad I did it and I wouldn't want to go back to the way it was before.

No adverse affects from the surgery and my overall feeling of well being is better now than it has been in years. I had no idea so much of how I had been feeling these last 10 years could have been the result of my gallbladder not functioning properly and being partially blocked.

As far as digestion goes, without your gallbladder, you will no longer have a 'time release' function for bile. Your liver will dump it all at once as it's needed for digestion. Not necessarily a bad thing, just have to be aware of your food choices. In reality, for me, this has not been a problem.

If you go through with the removal, there will very likely be a secondary procedure done following it to make sure no stones or 'gravel' made it out into the bile duct. Better to do this while you're there than to have to go back later because it has also become blocked.

I had the exact same issue. No pain since the surgery just the "don't get too far from a bathroom after meals" deal.

I had mine out several years ago, the "not too far from the john" issue got much better after about a year. Only issue, other that hernia at one of the small incisions. But, that is probably my fault for not taking it easy long enough afterwards. I went deer hunting two days after the surgery, not a real smart move.

I appreciate the feedback. I hate to have surgery but I have tried all the "hippy" herbs etc but although it has helped i am still having issues. I guess it seemed odd not to have gallstones but have so pain from the gallbladder where it seemed most people have gallstones.

I had mine removed years ago.

The only issue I had was greasy food. As the years go by, It does not phase me anymore.

Went through the same symptoms you have last August. My non-working gall bladder (6% was working to kill me) caused my pancreas to balloon to proportions that had the doctors and nurses to think I was an alcoholic. They even told me the first step to defeating addiction was admitting I had a drinking problem, my wife laughed at them as did a couple friends in the room with me. They removed mine on Monday along with repair to a torn hernia scar and I was released 4 days later.
The part about the restroom is great advice, you never know how your stomach is going to handle certain foods. It hasn't affected me as bad as it has others I have talked to and I am thankful. You will a lot better with that dude gone for sure.

The surgery is no big deal unless you wait too long and it ruptures. They made 3 little incisions in my stomach(1 was in the navel) and took it out. Taped the holes and done deal.

Remove it. After a month or so all pain and symptoms of gall disease stopped. You won't regret it.

My digestion got better after surgery. Before I had the surgery I had to be close to the RR anytime I ate. Now I eat what I want and when I want it.

You guys are making me think I should go ahead and do it. I have read the horror stories online of people saying they cannt eat meat anymore etc or still have same problems after surgery so was having a hard time going to talk to surgeon.

My wife had hers removed a few months back. I don't think she really has noticed any difference except she never has to worry about a gall bladder attack ever again.
