Mulberry leaves dont have as deep of jagged edges. The secondary veins are also not as prominent as the American elm. That pic is a classic example of American elm.
Depends on what his goal is. Elms are nice trees, but can be prone to losing limbs when they mature. They don't produce obnoxious seeds or leaves or anything else though. But they also don't produce much fruit for wildlife.
He has A LOT of landscaping in his yard that he has worked on daily for years.
He's tired of messing with it all and is about to start ripping stuff out. This tree is in a section of his front yard that is full of azaleas and and other bushes, along with a very large pine tree. He wants to take everything out and just get as low maintenance as possible.
