    Centerville area lease?

I have the oppertunity to lease 600 acres close to Leona for next season. I was wondering how many of you hunt this are and what the going rate for a lease in this area is? Also what type and numbers of deer are you seeing. I hunted in Flynn for two years and it was pretty good hunting but did not have to pay to hunt there. It is a family friend who inherited the property and asked me about it this weekend. I know it has 2 large tanks on it and i think a creek run through it. Any information would be appreciated.

I have a buddy that has a place in madisonville, and I think they pay about 6,000 a year for 1,000 acres.

I hunted there a couple times and didn't see any deer, but we did find a skull from a very nice 8 pointer that had been dead for a while... he was about 21" wide, and would have scored around 130-135....very nice 8.

from what I understand deer season is year round in Leon County. I did land work their for about a year and heard many of stories of bagging the big buck before the season so no one else would

Should be lots of hogs. Deer vary widely from place to place. Some excellent squirrel hunting in places if you've got hardwoods. Can be a sleeper if the tract is hard to get to and surround by big places.

We paid $300 per gun on our lease in Flynn. It was around 450 acres. One buck county with antler restrictions and you can only shoot does during archery season.

I was on a lease outside of Madisonville last year and it was pretty good. Lots of deer and Hogs. A few big deer.

depends where you're at. I've hunted Leona for 25 years and there are good years and bad. I would agree there's probably a problem with locals overhunting even with antler restrictions in place but we see a lot of deer every year and a lot of hogs when they're in town. I've take a couple nice eights, a decent ten, and my uncle shot a record six of all things. Good luck, you should be able to tell quickly with a little scouting up there on what kind of traffic you have. I've seen a monster or two shot in Centerville and and east of there on the creeks.

It's a heavily hunted, small acreage area so check out who your neighbors are too.

I am not even real sure exactly where it is just yet. I hunted in Flynn on the property directly behind the post office in the past and it was not bad.

I hunt in Buffalo sometimes on a friends property for free so can't help you on the price but there are deer there. Always see something and the last few years we've had hogs, both a blessing and a curse. There are good deer there and I have some pics of some good ones. Killed a 130 inch 8 point several years ago there. Not S. Texas but that area is producing more and bigger deer each year. Leon county is antler restricted which I think has really helped.

From past experiance I would say 4 guns max at about $500 to $750 per gun.

                          $2000 - $3000 total

Should be decent deer, lots of hogs, fox, bobcat, yotes, etc.

                          Good luck and have fun

I love the country side up that way and have looked to buy property around Centerville. Just haven't found the right place. Their are lots of deer in the area no doubt. I'm sure a few Leon County hunters will chime in shortly.

I hunt on 380 acres in Madison County. Here's a pic of a brute that was shot last year, including the big brow tine buck I shot last year. I have bucks on my trail cam that are a lot bigger than the buck I shot last year.

My dad's 8 pt. that he shot the same day I got mine (below)

Some trail cam pics from our place.

Big buck that scored 169 killed last year someone posted on here.

I hunt in northwest leon county in Flo. North of centerville. We have a large population of does, need thinning bad. This is the second year on the lease and we have no shortage of hogs. Just killed a 300 lber because he was running everything off. Now that he is gone, bucks are showing back up. Here are a few pics. I havent seen any real big ones but the restrictions I feel are working. See deer everytime I am there. Fawn rate looks good. And that hog has some deadly cutters.
