$$ price of club sports $$

Didn't want to hijack another thread, so I thought I would start a new one.

Club sports have become a huge business. I know some are more expensive than others. What sports are your kids playing, How much are y'all spending for kids to play these sports? I'm talking just fees to play, not travel etc.

Select soccer was about $4500 per year, including uniforms and a certain amount of tournaments. More tournaments equalled more money. AAU basketball is pretty much all travel and tournaments out here in SoCal, plus local leagues. Averaged about $200-$300 per month, plus travel expenses, private coaching and trainer. Football is $300-500 (spring-fall), plus extra equipment that we buy. Quarterback training is $100 per hour, about 5-6 hours per month, plus camps that run from $300-$5k. You are correct that it is big business, and it only continues to grow.

          my son swims year round

          $90/month just for practice
          $45/hour for personal trainer

$$ ?? swim meet fees vary per # of event and meet location

$$ ?? travel to monthly meets with added costs for hotel, gas, food, etc ...

my parents did it for me as I too will do it for my kids.
I know where they are and they are not loitering at the mall or being juvenile delinquents

time flies and before you can blink, your kids are 18 and off to college to enter the real world on their own

I started typing the list for my 3 boys who play club soccer, then I got depressed and stopped ......... it is a lot.

My oldest doing 12 days with his club in Denmark and Sweden this summer did not help one bit at all.

I'm a parent of a full scholarship top D-1 college athlete. 4 year volleyball player who is now looking at playing professionally in Europe....

That being said, what I paid for club volleyball, private lessons, and travel is more than it would have cost to send her to her top 10 university. However, I wouldn't trade her experience for anything! In the past 4 years she has played in Europe, attended tryouts for the US National Team, and spent 4 weeks in Vietnam teaching math and coaching volleyball.

Just keep paying if it makes them happy!

Thinking about it, I have not replaced the volleyball club fees with dog training fees! This dog training and hunt tests is equally expensive...

                        Bingo !!!

do the math on what we spend on hunting , most of it for ourselves

when my kids were younger (elementary school age) I spent way more on myself than I did for them

As they've gotten older, my priorities have changed as they come first now

It's been 12years since I played select/club sports but my parents easily spent $10-12k a year on me playing water polo. Summer travel league was all over the U.S., Olympic trials were in So Cal and a couple international tournaments.

Trainers, conditioning coaches, travel fees, not to mention all the food. Have no idea how they afforded to do it but they always made it work for me and shuttled us around everywhere.

My son is in basketball. 12 years old, 5' 7", and runs like a sprinter.

We are in a supposedly "select" team, and I am beginning to wonder what that means. Our yearly cost will be over $2000, and I am starting to question if it is worth it.

Seems like most of the money is to let black kids with no real basketball potential play and lose a lot, while the white kid with real potential just pays the bill.

The more I see of organized sports, the more it reminds me of politics. You have to pay to play, and special interest groups get the benefits.
