    Africa questions

I'm heading to South Africa on the first in April. I'm trying to figure out how much it will cost to get my horns and hides back to texas. I'm going for kudu, Impala, eland and warthog? Can anyone that's been there give me an idea?

4 animals is not much. both trips I had were 6 and 8 animals respectively and probably around $1,500. I heard last year it had went up due to jet fuel, safety concerns, etc. Honestly, you have MONTHS after you return to squirrel away the funds thus a non issue. I just hope your thwack more than 4 critters after flying to the other side of the world.

I'm going with a guy I work with that is from South Africa. His brother is a PH. He told me $3500 for the whole trip flight included.

Dip and pack was around 1k and shipping another 1k for my 6 animals. Sable, kudu, gemsbok, eland, zebra hide, and warthog.

Lucky dude, I would think most outfitters have arrangements with shipping and taxidermists.

I can't remember the price but on my second trip I went with dries visser. My ph was Anthony Lotter. He and his wife own a company called swift dip. By far the best experience I have had. Easy to work with and lots of updates. I know Anthony personally and he has stayed with me here in the states. My consider sending them an email or call. Good luck on the hunt!

I had world wide logistics take care of mine and dip and quarantine was $300 and transport from SA back to Houston and my taxidermist was $500.

That's what I vaguely remember also. It was really a non issue after being home so long afterwards. Worth every penny honestly.

I currently have about 3 dozen animals from 3 safaris in South Africa with a taxidermy firm there that I was highly impressed by.

If you'd care to share where your hunting area is with me I'll see if it's near them. They have a stellar reputation.

Also used Swift Dip, No issues. I would figure at least 2K for shipping and freight forwarding. My only complaint is that they boil the heck out of all the horns due to regulations. They come back coal black and dried out with smalll holes that were drilled to attach tags. I refinshed the horns with beeswax, and alot of elbow grease, very time consuming. Enjoy your trip it is a blast.
