Anyone with a straight piped 7.3?

Just picked up an 02 F250 and plan to leave it mostly stock but I was considering doing intake, exhaust and tune. I have two young kids that will ride with me fairly regularly so I wanted to be sure it wouldn't be too darn loud if I did a muffler delete. I'm not looking to upgrade the entire exhaust just cut out the muffler and install a SS pipe in its place. For the intake I'm thinking about going with the Riff Raff 6637(?) kit and I have no clue on the tuner yet. Would appreciate any advice from others who have similar setups. My 5.9 was straight piped and I think it would've been a little noisy hauling the youngsters but it's been a while.

I had one in high school, it was straight piped, and is still the loudest truck I have ever heard. No way I would put kids in something that loud. No way I would ride in something that loud now, lol.

Gah, I have no desire to run around blasting people's ear drums, just looking to let the engine breath a bit more. Sounds like a no go on the delete. Was yours a 4" back it just a delete? I've read the 4" turbo back is noisy.

The 5.9 engines straight piped are WAY more annoying than the 7.3L turbo engines.

The ones I've heard aren't that bad at all.

You wont notice it much over that clattering 7.3 Just put a tunner on and be done. You wont notice a difference with other mods unless you start really modifying stuff.

I have no desire to make it fast and start breaking stuff. Just want to maximize mpg, longevity and comfort.

I have a DP Tuner on my 7.3 and really like it.
Just get with Jody over there and he'll get set you up.

You won't see much in terms of performance or extra fuel economy by straight piping.

Tuner and good intake will yield better results.

Apparently DP is the way to go. Which tune do you run and what do you use for a controller? I was thinking about using his 80hp daily driver tune and adding a tow tune.

80 hp daily, also have 40 and 60 hp tow, stock, no start, 60 hp daily and drive through (although this doesn't seem to quiet it any)
4" exhaust with muffler (was on truck when I got it), all else is stock.
I want to try out the riff raff intake as well.

I just used a dremmel and cut out the spot there.

I loved my 7.3 with straight pipes. It never bothered me in the cab, nor my kids when they were young. I had 85-6.9 IDI, 87 IDI, 97 PSD and a 2000. Straight pipe was my first mod.
It does get loud when you hammer on it
I also like the Cummins straight piped and had several of those. I had a 2004 Dodge with straight pipes and did get some noise in the cab at certain speeds, that was the only truck I had that trouble with. I like loud exhaust, just my preference.

I do get better mpg with the tuner, maybe 2-3 mpg better.

Clean install! I will send Jody an email later this evening. How much did the tune and switch run you if you don't mind me asking? It seems the general consensus is to shy away from the generic tuners like bully dog and edge.

I don't remember at all what it cost. I got the 16 point tuner. What my grand plan was to do performance intake and exhaust along with gauges on door post and upgraded transmission cooler.
After those mods, I was going to get some hotter tunes on it.

I sent Jody an email this morning. Truck does feel a bit underpowered to me so I can't wait to get a mild tune on it. I did average 18 mpg all highway pulling my small sedan this weekend so no complaints there!
