If only the kid got to keep all of the money, most of it goes back into the scholarship fund...

Dang impressive sir! Tell her to keep pushing as these are events that will stay with her forever. I raised broilers in 4-H back in Louisiana one year.............I thought the $35 I got for 4 birds was BIG TIME in 1978!!!!

            Congrats goes out to her.

This was the first year my nephew showed at Houston and he got 66th in broilers. He got $1,800 for his.

My understanding is she only gets $40,000 and she can not show at Houston again

Ahhh, the memories of creating bionic Chicken feed mixing all sorts of stuff together, and turning shavings every couple of days, heck even worse if it was hot!! Good life lessons in raising broilers! It is hard work, just keeping them alive is tough the first couple of weeks!

HLSR broiler show is as competitive as it gets. I know from experience. Congrats to your niece, she must have one heck of a feeding program put together.

Congratulations to your nephew. Just placing and making Auction your first time to show at Houston is a great accomplishment.

She was pretty happy with the $40,000.00 and said she will just show turkeys next year since she can't show broilers again.

I talked to my sister and they were at the auction when the grand champion sold and they said it was exciting to watch. My nephew told my sister that would be him one day. I hope it is.

Congrats again to the young lady.

We raise broilers also. Took some to Houston 5-6 years ago and was a few spots out of the money.

We are thinking of running a pen through again next year. Our feed program has greatly improved since then.

                        Congrats to her

$215,000 for a chicken? What do you do with it?? Breed it, show it, chicken fry it?
What does a champion chicken look like?

Congrats to her. I was fortunate to get to judge the turkey show at the HLSR several years ago. She should be proud, that is one of the toughest shows around.
