If it is a "right" then why should anyone pay a consequence?

Common sense needs to take place

It's better to be quiet and let others think you're a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it

What's your stance on free speech?

Oh, I agree that it's not free speech when it causes mass hysteria, or is a violation of the law, OR there is a court order in place. This incident was he made a joke, posted it on FB and it was taken out of context.

I just have a problem when stuff is taking out of context and then blown out of proportion. In my opinion, the matter in question could have been handled in a different manner, not a termination, because now the taxpayers are out mucho money for the city's attorney to defend it. Should have been maybe a suspension and sensitivity training, which is what ultimately occurred.

Other than a few exceptions like the above though I think you should have the right to free speech my facebook page though is mine so I should be able to post whatever the hell I want. But at the same time don't be stupid about using your facebook either as it is a public form of media.

Was gonna say the same thing. If there are consequences for an action is it a right? Be like saying I have the right to go out and shoot my neighbor but I won't be free of the consequences.
