I had the same problem and after having been in a shop where they didn't have the area to run it as I would on the farm, I asked the shop manager at a shop that does have the area to run it, he simply told me not to bring it in, just to change the big gold 20 amp fuse you see in the picture from the 20 to a 30 and it should fix my problem. He also told me that I could buy this fuse at any auto parts store, when he simply could have sold me a more expensive Polaris part. I did as instructed and my problem has been solved. See the picture below.
I had the same issue on my 2011 crew. The shop burped the system and installed a new cap, on the second trip in a month, and it's been fine for a year now.
I thought I had the problem solved by burping the radiator but it is kind of recurring again. By kind of I mean that I have had the gauge show hot, the engine starts to miss, and then all of a sudden the temperature will drop 20 or 30 degrees and it smooths right out again. I noticed that it seems to happen more if I go thru a water puddle and splash water up on the inside of the engine compartment. I am a little apprehensive about changing a 20 amp fuse to a 30 amp. I have had others tell me about the problems with the 2011 model 800 that they have had that I have experienced. I wish I knew someone high up with Polaris that I could talk to. It seems to me, that as a public relations good will gesture, they would want to fix these problems to keep happy customers. Just trading it in for a 900 to me is not the answer. It is like they know of these problems but hope that nobody gets mad enough to not trade in for another Polaris.
