    hauling a propane tank

A buddy of mine has given me a 250 gallon propane tank that is 60% full. We have set it on a lowboy and strapped it down. I am trying to make time to haul it to another buddy's house. Is there any special transportation regulations that I need to be aware of? thanks

That is hazardous material cargo. Pretty sure that all regulations for hazardous naterial transport will apply such as stopping at train tracks, etc. you may need to placard your vehicle and maybe even have someone with a hazmat endorsement drive the vehicle. Call your nearest DPS office and speak with a DOT officer for advice.

Just haul it. I have done it a few times with no problems.

I could see this being the case for commercial cargo. If you are doing this for personal use I'd just make sure it's secured and go for it.

Need to make sure it falls under the reportable quantity. If its over all commercial laws apply. Hazmat, ins,dl, etc. Do your homework before you do , it could get expensive.Just fyi, If our over 1000lbs of propane you are illegal.

You should probably call a professional, so they can charge you a bunch of $$$. Lol use those heavy duty yellow straps and go!!!

                    Is the lowboy inspected?

Wear a straw hat, bib overalls, and have a piece of straw in your mouth. Don't bother to strap it on the trailer that has one fender falling off, no fender on the other side, rotten wood for flooring, broken taillight lenses that don't work any way, license plate off of a boat trailer that expired in 1983, and tires that are sun rotted (bias ply 7:50-15). You will not have any problem.

                            The DOT will disagree.

So I've got to worry about dot hauling my propane grill? Since it has a propane tank with it? I don't see any difference.
