    Bow hunter education class

Hey I was wondering if anyone out there has taken a bow hunter education course. I have heard that some public hunting areas (national forests/ grasslands) require the class, is this true? How was the class? Did you learn anything that wasn't common sense?

I've been looking for one in the Weatherford area. I think they are a necessity that should be required of all of us, regaurdless of whether we think something should be common sense or not.

Lots of folks hit the woods each year w/out the foggiest idea of what they really should be doing. Be it safety, shot placement, or woods knowledge in general.

My question has been that if someone that needs a Hunter Education course takes a Bowhunter's Education course.......is that satisfactory for the qualification or will they have to take the Hunter's Ed. as well?

Man, you hit the nail right on the head there. I've come across stands in the woods that you couldn't pay me to hunt out of. Safety is the biggest thing that should be empasized and it's the biggest mistake you can make while hunting.
I want to take the class as well but it's a matter of finding the time too. Another big reason to take it as well is there are a few states that require it as well as a few Canadain provinces.

I took it last year down at Aransas N.W.R. . Don't know where you would go in your area.

If you start a thread about getting a group together, I'm sure Jason would do one for us if we get enough people. I'm in the Fort Worth/Weatherford area as well and need to take it.

Speaking from experience the IBEP is benefical to all levels of bowhunters. I am teaching a class in Dallas which is a little bit a drive for you Westside folks, but worth it.

Even experienced bowhunters will gain some knowledge from the course.

Greg- As far as your question whether the bowhunters course will work as a hunter's education course, it will in some places and it won't in others. It just depends on the hunt/state. Some states will only recognize the standard hunters safety course and others will require both. The best thing to do is to have BOTH cards in your wallet.

I don't have any need for the bowhunter's education course, but I'd like to take it anyway. You can ALWAYS learn something. Besides, if I ever DO need it, I don't want to have to scrammble to get it!

If you call Archery Country here in Austin, Greg, you can find out about any upcoming classes. They have them there pretty regularly and know about a bunch of classes/instructors. Maybe we can do one together or get an Austin instructor to do one for the two of us and anyone else that's interested in doing it here in Austin. I can ask 'em up at AC tomorrow- I'll be up there shooting tomorrow. Call me if you want to and we'll set something up: 512-587-8651

Hunt NXS - Can a bowhunters education course be held online? Man, that'd be great! I'm asking because of your suggestion to post a thread to get one started- did you mean he could hold one here on TBH somehow?

IBEP course can be taken on-line, but you still have to do the outdoor portion of the class. Plus some extra work after the regular class is concluded.

I think there is a lot to be gained from taking the course, more of course for new hunters...but something for all.

Jack Jetton (LSBA Pres) is big in bowhunter ed in our state. He is an excellent instructor and does several classes a year. Dena, Curtis, myself, and a few other TBHers are instructors as well.
