    bobcat question

anybody have any recommendations on how to "bait" bobcats within bow range? I had a few last year walk by but never got a shot at em..i have heard cat food, meats, etc. but just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas?

Cat food works fairly well, if you have an area where they are travelling regularly. I've actually seen that first hand.

Also, I have heard of folks baiting for them much like they bait for large cats on the Dark Continent, with a bait hung from or tied in a tree. They're scavengers, so they'll eat just about anything that's readily available.

With that logic, I guess I'm a scavenger, too...

That would explain how that one ended up under my stand last year. Probably thought I was his next meal.

Make a rub post like we do when we trap them and bait with some good bobcat gland lure.

Quaker boy hand squeakers work really well calling them in. That's what I used to call mine in I killed back in 06. Also works on foxes/coyotes.

"squeak" your lips, they'll probably check-up anyway, good chance they will ease over and take a look.

We used a dying rabbit call and got a couple of coyotes, a fox and then a huge bobcat.

                    Missed em all of course...

We use a dying rabbit call with a couple dead rabbits. Works for yots and bobs. We let the fox walk. Although if they keep getting thicker I'll have to start thinning them to protect the turkey nests.

you can bait them with a carcass. Shot one 2 years ago over a dead deer carcass at 15 yards.

They like birds. When I trapped them, I used a dead bird and singed the feathers.
