    Buying boat without title?

Anyone ever purchased a boat without a title? Looking for another duck boat. Looking for an alumiumn boat on Craigslist. I can find some great deals on john boats but most do not have the title. How hard is it to get a title with just a bill of sale?

Dang near impossible. I speak from experience.

Does the jon boat have numbers already on it? Ask the buyer to get a title and watch what happens. The ones I have dealt with were not very nice about it or just said you can apply for a lost title. If it was that easy then why didn't they do it.

I wouldn't fool with it. Just keep saving up and get one with clear title.

                Exactly.

If they tell you " I can give you a bill of sale " then they aren't the least bit interested in dealing legally. Then it becomes your problem.

Yep and you end up giving it to a friend with a stock pond and never get invited to go fish it . . . I digress.

That's what I was afraid of. I currently have a duck boat but looking for a smaller one. Would only be using the smaller one to hunt one specific spot. So was trying not to drop too much money on it. Thanks for the input. May bite the bullet and go buy a new one.

There is a reason the great deals don't have titles.

Not easy. If the boat has numbers tpwd can look it up. Won't guarantee they will give you owners name. But if they do you will have to track down that owner to get tittle or apply for lost title. It's a nightmare. Keep looking save time and save your money.

You can check to see if a boat is titled here https://apps.tpwd.state.tx.us/tora/jump.jsf if you have the boat info. You can call TPWD and get a little help to but not much.

Take a GW with you when you look at it and he can sign off on an inspection/serial number check. If it's hot then the seller gets busted.
