Just read some of the February recap and there are always some great (disappointing) stories in there. This one wrapped up the recent notes and man, talk about numerous violations - I lost count!! (and right near the TPWD headquarters!)
"Close to Home
A Travis County game warden received a call from the Travis County Sheriff’s Office that they had a subject in custody for felony possession of a stolen shotgun. The original call regarded shots fired on a road close to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department headquarters. The subject was hunting mourning dove out of season with an unpluggedstolen shotgun, shooting directly over a fence into the neighbor’s agricultural field. Large amounts of feathers and crushed beer cans littered the immediate area from heavy usage over time. The closed season outlaw did not have Hunters Education certification, a hunting license or any endorsements or stamps."
That area is ripe with poachers despite being so close to headquarters. RBWilkes and I have a feeder set up for pigs around 1 mile south of TPWD headquarters to help a farmer out with crop depredation. Within 1 week of setting up the feeder, someone in a silver Z71 was pulling up and changing the time on the feeder to throw at 11:00pm. With the Austin city limits across the street from us, we proactively called the game warden to let let him know what we would be doing so close to their offices. Just last week RBWilkes was there checking the feeder when 2 cars pulled down the drive to do a drug deal. Having property to hunt right next to the Ghetto makes for some interesting hunting.
