    Tax question

I got a question about the tax coming out of my check. Shouldn't it be the same percentage no matter the amount? My employer made a mistake on my hours and had to give me a check for the difference and only took $34 in federal tax out of an $880 check. That doesn't seem right, it's like 4%. I know it should be more right. Our HR lady says its figuered on a scale. Thanks for any help on this, Kevin

Sliding scale I believe. I always had guys complain about overtime. The more they got payed the more taxes were taken out.

Should still have been more like between 20 and 35% taken out. I think you will be in for a surprise later when you do your taxes...

It all depends on your W-4 ( you should have filled this out when you were hired ). The amount they take out depends on how much you make and number of dependants etc. Depending on your situation 4% may be right, you may get it all back or pay tens of thousands of dollars at tax time.

Example: if you are married, have 5 kids, make $30k a year you will likely get every penny back ( plus some )

Single, no kids and make $100k you will be sending at least $10k to the tax man next April!
