Need a taxidermist opinion and possible help

I shot a turkey with my bow a couple years ago on my grandads land and had it mounted. The bird it's self looks good, feather and body wise. But the head is awful. I took head pics of the bird after I shot it and sent them to the taxi but I got back just a standard foam head I assume the sell at taxi supplies. Just a big old red head.
Is there a way of taking that head off and mailing it to a taxi that can airbrush or do something with it to make it look more real or at least like the bird I shot? Thanks

Can you post some pics of the head?
It can be done, but not sure about you taking it off and on yourself. If you want to try that is great. I would suggest you by a freeze dried, pre-painted head from Hazel Creek.

    They are the very best!!!
You would have to re-hydrate the skin where the neck skin starts from the head and neck. Buy the head first and match the shape of that transition. You can wrap the area with wet, not dripping, paper towels and wrap some plastic wrap around it. The next day you could start the decapitation......cut the skin in the shape that matches the new head and than thru the neck, below the lowest piece of the skin about a 1/4 inch. There will be a heavy wire that will need to be cut as well.
The new head comes with a wire, so you will stick it into the cut off neck. A dab of hot glue will help keep it in position. Tuck the skin under the edge of the new head and let dry.
    Have some fun!!!
