    Axis question

I have a chance to hunt Axis for the first time at the end of this month. Can someone tell me what the Axis antlers are doing this time of year around Fredericksburg. What I mean is are they in velvet, have they shed or are they hard antlers.

From my experience Axis are different in each it's own. Meaning they drop their antlers on their Birthdays, Axis breed twice a year....from what I understand. So you could see a mixture of Hard, Velvet and Dropped Antlers

You will probably see both. Axis are not like whitetail that all shed around the same time and in velvet the same time. Axis shed their horns around their birthday every year. So you might see some in velvet still growing and some hard horned too. Just depends on the herd.

Yep like they all said. I've also noticed that the bucks will run with other bucks that are at the same stage of antler development as them. Bucks that just dropped antlers are often together, bucks that are halfway through velvet growth together, etc.

Also most of the does are pregnant. My uncles took out four axis doe at his ranch last weekend- all prego. We are heading out this weekend after some bucks.
