    Permian

****** the wife off, again. Talkin football and she is a grad from there. I may **** a few off in here as well. Permian was the "team" . That was way back. Why talk football? None on TV so blame it on boredom. I work with Mike Troglin as well. A few jabs usually set him straight.

I compare Permian to the Dallas Cowboys. They were a legacy, way back. Carry on

That is a blast from the past. You were plenty bored this afternoon. Mojo was the best money could buy in the 70's and 80's...oil money we were always told at Abilene Cooper. I only started on the varsity my Junior and Senior years. We beat them my Senior year and we beat them our Soph, JV year.
Ahh the good ole days, Man that was a long time ago

They were pretty darned good- but hey when all the oilfield guys move their families where the work is, well you can guess that there will be a ton of talent headed your way. MOJO

My Dad taught there for 30 some odd years. We grew up eating, drinking and breathing Mojo Football. I was on the only team in the 80s that didn't make the playoffs. It was a hell of a program for a long time. But, yeah, that was a long time ago.

I think we're still the 2nd or 3rd winningest program in the state, though.

Hey fellas just want to make it clear. The thread is in good fun. I went with my then fiancée now wife to Texas Stadium in 1989 for Permian state Championship against Aldine. MOJO won but good lawd it was frigid cold.

She is still die hard MOJO but loves the Steelers for pros. She knows more football then most. Interesting conversations with her at times.

They were a power house in the sixties as well, up to 67 when the brand new Reagan high school beat them for state. Reagan won the state the next year, missed it in 69 and won it again in 70. First part of 71, it was found out the coach was running a house of ill repute and was fired. They have never been great again.

I wish I could tell the story of why they didn't get it in 69 but it's not for a family site.

I will have to agree with they really have stunk it up past few years especially compared to their former glory.

And add me to the list of wanting to know what happened in 69

Ah yes, graduate of 1977 here. My favorite year though was in 1989 when MOJO played Aldine for the State Championship. I lived in Houston and the papers in Houston were describing how Aldine was most likely going to crush Permian with their wishbone running game. They had crushed all others.

Well that is until Lloyd Hill crushed their QB on a keeper. That QB was never the same the rest of the game. Looking back on it now I firmly believe that he sustained a major concussion but back then you played if you could walk. Not saying it was obvious he had a concussion, just remember that he was one scared dude out there.

                  Temp was 10F....

You can watch the game on YouTube and there is a link on this page to it near the bottom.

                  Enjoy Mojo fans !!!
Home of The Odessa Permian Panthers. World famous MOJO football is the featured topic, and other Permian sports news is reported as well.

thats the one we went to watch in person. Never again. State or whatever I will catch it as a rerun on TV. Heck of a game and yes MOJO dominated. One thing I can say about MOJO fans (my wife) they are deep, loyal and bleed Panther blood come win, loose or tie.

As a grad and former player for the panthers I must agree that the glory that well we all lived in growing up was living out the dream that the old teams laid out for us.. Sadly that now all the coaches could see while I was attending was money.. They didnt go after the talent that kids had only the pocket book of what mommy and daddy could put in..

But I Still cheer them on friday nights

Around 71-72 Brazoswood started beating Reagan in Bi-District. Then we won state in 74.

Youtube has the 1987 Arlington HS/Permian game as well. HUGE comeback by Permian in that game. Still one of the best games I ever watched.
