Would love to get some input from you guys who know the area. We are looking at getting a little place North of De Kalb that is pretty close to the river. We have never hunted this area before, we have always been in central or west Texas, so I am just trying to get an idea of what we could expect. I really appreciate any info you guys have.

Had a place between dekalb and I 30 a few years back. Was tough hunting compared to what you might be used to, but there are deer out there. Antler restrictions should be helping the size of the deer in general. I will be brutally honest and tell you if you leave anything that can be seen from the road, it will probably disappear.
We had one full feeder set up and one 32 foot travel trailer stolen. We also had people road hunting and shoot deer we were looking at from the stand. It is different but doable -
Hunted North of town back in the late 80's. Pretty nice deer, but not great numbers back then.Comment

Quite a few poachers in the area. Most feel that they were born and raised there so they can shot what they want......Most of them are related to my wife so I get to see them at the family reunions. Some good deer there if you can control the hunting.
