    Moultrie D-40

I got one of these for free this past weekend. I never had a game camera before and im sure this is not the best in world but #1-free---#2-first.
Has any of yall used this before and what is some of the quirks on seting it up. I have a 2g card for now.
Didnt have a manual and down loaded it.
Thanks for any help and opinions.

A lot of us on here us them. They are pretty good cameras for the money and since its free you cant beat that. The only problems I have had is it eats batteries about every 2-3 weeks and the holes where you hook the cords have broken off. If you plan to put in on a T post mount it to a 2x6 about 2 feet long and use long wood screws to mount to the board and a u bolt to mount it to the T post.

Consider getting one of the moultrie solar battery units to add to it. They are $69 at Academy and will help with the short battery time on the D's

I've found that changing from a 1 minute delay to a 5 minute delay you will extend your battery life, not just in days, but more photos.

I think it has something to do with the batteries being able to "recharge" a little before the next photo snaps... kinda like cranking on your car for 20 minutes straight versus cranking then stopping...

or maybe it's all in my head!

set it on 5 min delay. switch from 1 min to 5 and batteries have lasted a lot longer (couple more weeks).

I build these post last week for our cameras. Able to move around for the perfect position. Remember to face the camera North. Sun from east and west will give you bad pics. These cams are a lot of fun. Congrats

I use it and it works good but the batteries will go bad before you fill a 1Mb card on high resoulution

Lowering the pic quality setting should also add significantly to the battery life.

I don't have a D40 but have a I40 and a M40. The D40 will not last as long on the D-Cell batts but will take good pics. Get a solar/power pack if possible.
5 min delay and low resolution will help battery life and be able to take more pics on smaller SD cards.
Here's a pic from an I40 with above settings and using a re-sizer program to make the resolution smaller to fit TBH requirements.
                    Not bad...
