We sometimes rag on the younger generation

I made one quick stop from DFW back to Durant, still in uniform from this weekend. A young man about 14-15yrs old came up to me and looked me straight in the eyes and thanked me for my service and shook my hand like a man.

I was proud of that young man, who ever he was.

There are still lots of great people in the USA. News media does not cover this kind of stuff. Makes me sad.

Every generation does it to the younger ones but there are hoodlums and great people in every single generation out there.

The media just focuses on the bad more than ever IMO

The young people in my hometown never cease to amaze me. I could write a book about the amazing positive things I've scene in the hallways of the schools I've taught. Had one of those moments two weeks ago when a student lost his mother (father was already deceased) and the student body put together a spaghetti supper and silent auction in one weeks time and raised $10K for their fellow student. One other thing-within three hours of the news of the mothers fate, my wife and I offered to take the student into our home only to be told to get in line. We were the 11th family to offer in the first three hours. Says a lot about the young man and our community. Don't give up on this old country and the youth just yet! BTW-thanks for your service.

Thank You Sir for your service .
There are some fine young people who have been raised right. We , the people, need to hear more stories like this.

Maybe I'm getting soft in my mid thirties (see dog saving thread haha) but these kids are our future. It's our job to build them up when we can.

It's nice to have a positive thread going.

I appreciate the thanks, more importantly I appreciate these good kids.

This. It gets frustrating being on this forum and hearing about how my generation is the devil...

Thank you for your service, sir

I own a business.... I'm impressed with how smart these kids (20 yr olds'ish) are.
They're great to have around for their brains and energy.

I will shoot you a PM. Holler at me if you want to catch up for lunch or something. I'm in general surgery, but it's a lighter load these next two weeks so I can slip out.
