G, Sorry to hear this brother. Hope you heal up quickly. Hope your's can heal up without surgery. Tendons heal very slowly since the tissue is of a different mater. Sometimes surgery is not needed as the tendon will become thicker with scar tissue over time. But scar tissue prevails. And the possibility of tearing again still exist as there is not as much to hold on to the muscle as there was previously.
A boot will limit the foot's movement in the up position. There by allowing the calf muscle to go unused. When you raise your toes, it stretches the calf muscles. The boot limits the movement. You should still be able to do a lot with the boot on. As I know folks who have torn thier Achilles completely out. And and were able to still do most common things after being repaired, with their boot on till fully healed.

Tore my calf muscle at lacrosse practice about 4-5 years ago. Felt like someone stuck an ice pick in my calf. The first thing I thought of when I read your post was the Granger hunt as I know you are looking forward to it. I don't know what to tell you to expect by that time, but you won't be running around. You still shoot that pretty bow I saw last year?
