Wow. Those poor longshoremen on the west coast

    http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-0...er-talks-break

    Yeah, lets go on strike

The association of shipping lines, terminal operators and stevedores made public details of its contract offer, including 3 percent annual raises over five years, retaining employer-paid health care, and raising pensions by 11 percent. The average dockworker now makes $147,000 a year in salary, plus $35,000 a year in employer-paid health care and an annual pension of $80,000, according to an association press release.

While it looks like a lot of $, has anybody seen what the cost of living is out there? I have a friend stationed out there, and the COL (on top of their politics) is enough to not visit, and fight any chance of a pcs out there.

It's bad. Even before a strike, the delays in shipping yards was 35-45 days in some cases. Literally backlogs of shipping containers as these guys were doing as little as possible

If they want to keep employer paid health care then those union folks should not have put money and pressure on the elected officials to pass obama care.
And regardless what it cost out there im sure the average salery is somewhere around 50k

                Pizz off poor longshoreman

The most corrupt union in the USA...
                        and they brag about it.

I have a retired uncle who was some big shot in that union 10 years ago before he retired.
he made a quarter of a million a year supervising a few forklift operators.
He compared it to running a day care.

Truth. Also, once a ship leaves a foreign port, it is almost impossible to change their port of entry to the US. So, the ship goes to the West Coast (original port of entry) where everything is backed up and they have to wait for more paperwork to be re assigned to another port where the workers are working and not on strike thus delaying this shipment getting to the wholesaler or retailer even lore. This is going to affect a bunch of folks, not just the wholesalers/retailers but you the consumer.

I survived just fine out there on an enlisted mans salary. Maybe if they didn't demand so much salary, retailers would not have to jack up the prices of goods and services so much to make up for it, and the cost of living would be normal like everywhere else.

They did it to themselves, so I say let them twist in the wind...
