    Lab Pup Training Books

    Hey Guy's and Gal's,

I recently got a lab pup and have decided to do the training myself. I know this will open a can of worms like a Dodge, Chevy and Ford battle but here goes.

What is the best retriever training book ya'll have found to do training. I'd like a step by step guide with a little better explanations of the certain goals/mile stones.

I currently have the Water Dog book by Wolters but it was written in 1964 and is a bit out dated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew

I've heard waterdog is a great book from many friends with labs.
There are tons of online reads and videos that will give you multiple perspectives for every command. Figure out what you want your dog to learn, research it and apply it. The key is patience, consistency, and truly understanding what you want the dog to do.
Research and get a timeline together and try to follow it. As it learns new things along the timeline, keep repeating everything it has learned from day 1 also. Love and repetition really works.

There are some good suggestions above.
I like Bill Hillman's videos and have heard great things about Evan Graham’s Smartworks.

Water dog may be old but it's the best book I've ever found on training a retriever. Just because it's old doesn't mean it's bad stick with what works!!!
